This hardy heirloom is celebrated for its stately spires of beautiful, pea-like flowers in shades of blue and lavender. Lupinus perennis is a crucial plant for a healthy ecosystem; it enriches the soil by fixing nitrogen and serves as the exclusive host plant for the caterpillars of the endangered Karner Blue butterfly, as well as other native pollinators.
